Will, I presume, no longer be tolerated. FDB was an absolute class defender and I think this is an area he will focus on, as we are pretty tasty offensively already. Joel Ward is in deep deep trouble I think, and that's a good thing, he hasn't cut the mustard for a long old time. We really only have left backs who can actually pick a pass, we don't have a single center half who is comfortable on the ball. Scott Dan could struggle also if asked to pass the ball. We need an overhaul at the back really, and let's hope we go Dutch with Tete and Veltman. Shame but Parish just admitted that the Sakho deal is definitely dead in the water, it was just too much money for a defender in Parish's eyes.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

While our defenders are not renounced for being comfortable on the ball , to think we are going to make a massive overhaul in defence, your kidding yourself. You must remember that Delaney and Kelly recently signed new deal. If you look at how many defenders, you need in a 25 man squad. 2 rbs, 2lbs and 4 cbs. There's only room for a right back cover or a ultity player like veltman, that can cover rb and cb.

Andy Johnson Magic, He wears a Magic Hat
When he Sees the match ball, he says he having that

Think tomkins fits the bill. Very classy player

Credit to Ward though he's put in many a decent shift, personally think he gets singled out as being weak a bit to much. I think he's class, decent at defending and runs all day. He makes the odd mistake but who doesn't. Hes done us proud and I hope he enjoys fighting for his place and stays positive.

I agree.

Based on the OP's principles about the only player to fit that would be Joel Ward and the left backs.

Delaney and Scott will struggle. So will Kelly.

Tompkins should be 'OK'.

I think that when fully match fit Scott Dann can play. He is a real goal threat from set pieces and even more importantly a solid defender. Don't forget 12-18 months ago he was being touted as England class. I also think that he is capable of stepping up to be a "footballing" centre back. Tomkins is similar as well.

Eh?

Dann is normally very comfortable on the ball, and has a very good range of passing?

First of all Frank will get the defenders to defend.
Any playing style changes will come in the future.
We do not have any Beckanbauer defenders.

The hyped defender John Stones has been a liability at Man City, and as for ball playing goalies playing sweeper as well.!!

I agree gets far to much stick in my view, and a big plus point is he very rarely gets injured.

A lot of the lack of passing/creative play seemed to be a confidence thing. With Sakho in there - and even after he was injured - the level of passing improved as much as the tracking back/coverage. Definitely needs some strengthening but I did see Ward and Kelly in a slightly different light by the end of the season.

Agreed. Given his position, we are inclined to remember his mistakes but not so much the rest of his day. He's a decent player.

We'll always take an upgrade at any position but Ward has been a great servant to the club.
