Some players arrive with hype, others arrive with little expectations after failings at previous clubs or injuries records. What signings did you originally think would be a disaster but turned out better. For me it has to be Andy Johnson, there was little or no expectations before his arrival and to replace Clinton Morrison in terms of structure and goals was always gonna be hard.

Yeah aj under those circumstances. Paul stewart I get what you saying. Also when we signed mcarthur, I thought why the hell do we want him and apart from the beginning of 2017. He's been fantastic. Maybe because he came from Wigan.

More recently, had zero expectation from Bolasie. But yes, AJ was clearly the bigger surprise. <Willo> If I remember he was something like a £250k makeweight for Morrison going to Birmingham </Willo>

The list of players we have signed that surprised me how sh*t they were is too long to post! On the positive I would have to say Dougie Freedman. I really didn't expect much and he turned out to be one of my all time favs.

I would put forward Henry Hughton who played in probably the worst Palace side in my days. He couldn't score in a brothel but always tried his hardest. The post team of the 80's years were tough to stomach - especially if like me you were going home and away back then Edited by Bexley Eagle (30 Jun 2017 11.02pm)

Jordan Mutch crept up on me in a Sainsbury's local while I was getting some fizzy fangs. Proper surprised me.

Some arrive with oranges for half time and a warm flask of tea.
