There's a lot of talk that , FDB appointment is great news for the academy products. However are the likes of Kai Kai good enough or is that there not being given an opportunity. While previous managers have joined the club, with survival as their only mission. These players have hardly flourished in the U23 game or when out on loan in the football league. Im all for giving youth a chance but they have to be good enough. Didn't the academy get graded as category B. How can we improve this. Is Gary Issot the problem.

What's your thoughts on the academy and why has it been 7 to 8 years. Since Zaha burst onto he scene.

Not so sure that 'Williams' will ever be effective in the PL.
'Kai Kai' hasn't done enough, when loaned out, to suggest he will be a positive influence.

I think the impact FdB will make on the academy will be in its organization and recruitment. We will probably not see the results for a number of years. As long as survival in the Prem is Job #1 we will have to rely on the transfer market. As a start, let's see what Williams, KaiKai and Boateng bring to the table and go from there.

De Boer coming in will not suddenly make our youth players world beaters.

A few people have already said that it will take a few years to develop anyone, which is correct. We haven't been able to give them a chance due to being in and around the bottom nearly every season and tried and trusted players were used with experienced managers.

What he will bring is a new understanding of the game which may mean the current U23 team and below may well pick up on this and develop their 'football brain'. This could have an impact on their thought process and therefore seemingly improve their ability whilst on the pitch. He can be the missing link from apply the ability into using it in the correct situations.

I personally couldn't understand why any of our youth team left backs were not in with a shout over Martin Kelly under Pardew, that was an opportunity as it couldn't have got much worse.

Time will tell but I think he will be using the transfer market for his first season or if we are safe by April he may think about it.

I agree Ken,however previous management have deemed the three lads you name not good enough.
Albeit Williams (lovely lad) is injury prone.
But there is nothing better than a youngster coming through for the Palace.
It's easy to tell if good enough,I remember seeing Zaha at Dorchester and Clyne given a start by Neil.

When Clyne was coming through the academy he was considered as not good enough and was behind Michael Abnett (currently plying his trade at Merstham) in the pecking order. Give the lads a chance to see what they can do.
