I remember Ian moody overseeing the likes of dann, Ledley, Hennessy and ince. In literally one of the best transfer window, we ever had. Especially in terms of value for money. Maybe you could argue big Sam window was effective. Whilst we now got the American investors. Does parish need help from a director of football at Palace. What your thoughts?

Would help with continuity in the absence of any manager staying for more than 5 munutes. Though to be fair our best window ever was January's so SP and the scouting team still fulfil some of those functions.

I agree January window was good but in terms of value for money pulis window just edges it. Big Sam spent about 40m and pulis spend under 7m.

I'm not sure how the various jobs are divided up at Palace. A chairman is supposed to be in charge of planning and forward thinking so once we have a manager I'm not sure what Steve Parish will do to fill his day. The day to day running of a company is in the hands of the Chief Executive who is Phil Alexander and I haven't a clue what he does. We have a chief scout so if we have a manager with extensive contacts like Sam do we really need a DoF as surely they operate along with a coach and not a manager.

I'd say that it would be an excellent investment and might help to put an end to all the prevarication that goes on with recruitment. What we need is someone with good contacts whose happy to let the manager do his job and Parish to look after the money, the infrastructure, the PR, etc. We might also be able to keep a manager for more than a season as well if there's someone to act as a buffer between him and the owners.

I'm not sure that was a fair comparison as prices have doubled since Pulis's day and a left back at the price we paid in January would have probably been a seasoned international in Pulis's day

But that would only make a difference if SP was able to delegate and trust the decisions of the DoF otherwise all it will do is to add another layer to the committee

Exactly my thinking. Whilst moody time at the club was short. It was a successful window at the time. I also think this could help the planning of future managers or players. Just like les reed has done at Southampton.

Depends on what they bring to the club. Many dof have added little and just taken a salary.

Before we even consider a dof do you not think a manager is a higher priority?
