In order to take the mudslinging away from the Manchester thread I feel we should use this one to talk about the ins ad outs of what's happening regarding the heightened threat on here.

What do people make of the NY Times publishing pictures of the aftermath of Monday, particularly the picture of the detonator. Does it compromise the investigation?

To be honest I freely admit I have no idea whether the photos being released would compromise the investigation. My first instinct is no.
We know the identity of the individual who detonated the bomb. We know information about his family tree and who may be involved. I would say that is more likely to jeopardise enquires as anyone who knows them could go to ground or try and hide evidence if they are involved or knew of what they were doing .

I hate to say it but there are a lot of people who think it's a false flag attack (they have their own theories and they are entitled to them ) however sometimes it is in my opinion entirely necessarily to show the nitty gritty reality of a terror attack. People have limbs blown off, people don't often simply slip away peacefully into the next life. They die often agonising drawn out deaths from horrendous injuries. Let's not pretend it's pretty or romantic or gentle. It isn't. And sometimes things need reporting and spelling out in blunt terms to drive the message home to people. Yes people will be upset along the way by it but it's needed

Only that Div Steve Brookstein, cannot see anyone agreeing with him so a lot of people consists of one person. If the UK Government are annoyed about sensitive information being leaked we all should be. There must be a protocol set up to stop it happening.

I'm not sure the world in general is ready for 8 year old girls blown up remains spread all over the front page.

I've seen what explosives of this nature can do to a body first hand, and you don't want that imagery in your head if you can help it, why you ask ? because that sort of sh1t never ever leaves.

Anyone within 20 or so meters in direct line of the blast wave would have torn in half, then you have the nails etc etc flying through the air at faster than sound.

Trust me you do not want to see children killed in that way ....Ever.

Can I ask why it's needed? What purpose does it serve other than make the population anxious and unhappy.

My view is the media reporting of these kind of events is disgusting. Clickbait everywhere, big flashing headlines and an attitude of "good story at all costs", including the wellbeing of victims and their families, and for what purpose? Depressing.

Of course it bloody does.

Seeing that woman pleading for news of her missing daughter on BBC news was sickening. 24 hour news is quite repugnant at times.

No maybe they aren't and it is insensitive of course it is whether is an 8 year old girl or an 80 year old. The papers do it as click bait and some people like that kind of gory sensationalism . Look at Victorian England and how many people went to watch people be hung .

However put all that aside for one moment when there are people in families and communities who are suspicious of people but afraid to speak up or harbouring people with these kinds of views and radical leanings maybe something shocking like this plants an image in their head and might make then wake up and alert someone .

Agree. Kaye burley on sky isn't much better. Vulture with form for things like this. Same with piers Morgan and susanna Reid. Yes it's a natural reaction to be upset at this kind of news but they are reading the news ffs. Put your emotion to one side and report the news with the facts which are known at the time. Stop circling like vultures, stop putting words in people's mouths and for heaven's sake stop making yourself part of the bloody story. Bet someone like Trevor McDonald or dimbleby wouldn't have been crying on the news or foisting their own views and feelings onto viewers.

Its not just the photos though...and this after we told them to stop 'leaking' info.

Its very much a trust thing in my book...what was the benefit of leaking it anyway? Was there payment for doing so by an individual? If so..they should be extradited to the UK and on trial under the Official secrets act for obstructing the law.

Releasing sensitive information no matter how insignificant to the general public...especially after having been asked not to is bang out of order.

Can you imagine what would have happened if it was the other way around?

It's all to do with the timing...not that the information came out. The name of the guy was released earlier than they wanted as the Manc police's had was forced...it had been reported on Reuters claiming a US source; as had the fact that there may be a 'cell' in action as well.

As I say, release the info once its safe to do so...not before.
