Heard this morning that Sam may have lost a close friend in the Manchester bombing, which may have caused him to take stock of his life and decide that at 62, life is too short for the stresses that go with football management.

Brazil seemed sure this was the case and something else so you cant blame him for this decision with his family in mind.

He has made a lot of money and if it is true then as Palace fans we can only be grateful (well regardless of his decision anyway) for what he did for the club and wish him all the best for the future.

Yes.I didn't know he had someone close to him involved but when I read his whole statement last night after , I freely admit, laying into him on here when rumours first circulated he was leaving , I wondered if manchester had anything to do with it. I posted elsewhere last night about it and a few people thought I had lost the plot.

Him and the team and lots of our fans were only there the day before. Tell me a few of them didn't see that news yesterday morning and think oh f***. Makes complete sense. I truly believe hand on my heart he had a lightbulb moment yesterday morning.

I'm not, for one moment, suggesting that there isn't something in this, but this story has escalated from the Manchester atrocity got Sam thinking about families and mortality in general, to he knew someone involved to he lost a close friend. Perhaps, unless there's any confirmation of these stories, for the sake of all those who were involved, we should stop hanging the departure of a football manager on an act of terrorism.

True, but by putting this "possible" information out there, it might stop some angry Palace fans hanging Sam out to dry for leaving us for selfish reasons , and feeling awkward at a later date if this turns out to be true.

When Sam arrived and into the first two months a fair few of us thought he looked jaded and maybe had lost the fire in his belly. He got that second wind thankfully to help us stay up but maybe the first Sam we saw is where he is at really. Good luck to him and a bloody good decision i reckon. He's probably got 15-20 years left. Enjoy yerself Big fella.

Yes I agree it can be seen as clutching at straws to justify his departure.

Just seems bloody strange he was in Manchester Sunday wakes up Tuesday morning to the news, re evaluates his life and leaves his job by tea time to enjoy life and his family and there's no connection. There's definitely a link there somewhere I am absolutely completely and utterly convinced of it. Prepared to eat my words if it's a load of crap. He would more than likely been advised not to publicly refer to the events in Manchester as any reason for going / taking stock of his life.

I am glad someone has posted this as I agree.
I feel sure this triggered his departure albeit I asked in another thread that was it him or the lack of investment that made him depart.

Those who were accusing him of fighting with Parish or screwing us over need to apologise.

An entirely reasonable decision then. I do hope the papers leave him and his family alone.

Saw this rumour yesterday and thought it was a load of disrespectful nonsense, seems I was wrong.
Tragic and if it did have bearing on his decision you can't blame him at all.
RIP
