Steve mentioned academy players who might get some game time in the near future. Can anyone tell us anymore about these players he mentioned, positions, background etc Just generally anything anyone knows about the possible talent we're nurturing ?

I was very jealous of the Man Ure stat that this was their 67th straight game in which they've fielded an academy player. I hate MU but I really respect what they're doing to develop their youth who took us apart with ease.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

All profiles are on the cpfc site obviously. What I would say is that Luke Croll was getting matches and really good press and fan forum feedback down in Exeter earlier in the season. Parrot

There's no one that springs to mind. Unless we have an injury crisis again I would imagine it would be someone who has been out on loan already. Nobody has ripped it up even in the Championship, so I am struggling to see who. I know he hasn't had a lot of game time but Kaikai still seems a way off.

At the Fulham friendly last July, both Croll and Dreher looked useful when they came on. Boateng was given a good write-up in the Mail a few weeks ago in their Scouting column. It is poor though that no regular has come through the ranks since Williams six years ago and he's hardly been a regular. The problem of course is money - when there's £1.9m for every place in the PL, managers are reluctant to take a risk on a young player, so you end up paying over the odds for 'proven' journeymen instead. If we'd still been in the Championship I dare say we'd have seen Boateng, Kaikai and a few others by now.

I don't believe that as Southampton and Spurs are happy enough to blood youngsters and winning is as important to them as in any other club. The real reason why none of our youngsters have come through in recent years is that they just aren't good enough. It was noticeable that although there was a young academy winger on the bench yesterday Sam elected to start with a fullback playing out of position on the wing rather than using KaiKai

The players he mentioned are Luke Dreher, Nya Kirby and Kian Flanagan. They're all midfield players as far as I know.

Luke Dreher many would have seen preseason vs Valencia where he came off the bench and set up a goal fir Keshi Anderson with a superb pass. Good central midfielder with a decent engine and excellent natural vision. Had a nasty injury this season and then I think relapsed after coming back too quickly, otherwise we may have seen more of him. Nya Kirby was at Spurs and Chelsea tried to sign him. That caused a tapping up row and in we swooped. Very promising attacking mid. [Link] Kian Flanagan also central mid, and I believe can play in behind a striker too. We got him as part of EPPP terms from Southend. Man U tried to nick him but he stayed with us. Was recently linked with Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea [Link]

Best part of Parishs interview was when he made was speaking about them and that sam was on board with wanting to bring them through. Really delighted that Palace are not only buying quality but also looking to bring lads up through the ranks. Great podcast, thanks!

Nya Kirby is one of the best in the academy at the moment in my opinion, great passer and loves to take players on.I think Kian Flanagan is one of the youngest players who plays in the under 23s, you can sometimes hear his mother reminding him to use his asthma pump at half time, he is also a great passer of the ball and very comfortable on it. Two other lads that could get into the first team are Michael Phillips, a midfielder and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a full back who is a great defender and great going forward

Impossible to judge till they have a run training with the first team and a few appearances in the PL. Allesani was meant to be a wonderkid, where is he now? We really need to promote some through soon
