Poor, underwhelming, underachieved. But a couple of signings and we are not far away, get in sakho and a no 10, Everton lose Barkley and lukaku and next year we've got as good a chance as anyone of competing for 7th.

Most of our performances have either been a) excellent or b) toilet. Most of a) came after the arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in the January window and most of b) happened before a certain boot was applied to a certain arse at Christmas. Edited by chateauferret (21 May 2017 6.33pm)

The top middle & bottom middle are close together. Us in 14th finished just five points below 8th with 17th finishing just six points below 8th. We must improve our home form next season. Finishing in 18th place for just the home results.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

14th is not too bad but a bit of a false position, the top 7 was so much better than everyone else this year that the rest got to 40 and went on holiday. We should never of been going into the penultimate game with still a chance of relegation. I'm just sick of puncheon doing nothing for 90 minutes apart from passing the ball back and sideways. Get a no 10 who can run at players and support our striker, making bursting runs into the box, without zaha we would of been terrible to watch this year.

When you spend £30 million on a striker paying him £100k a week, you're not looking to just stay up, 14th is a disappointing position and not what the owners would have been targeting. We've not moved on as a club despite some huge signings. We need to consolidate next season, we should have been in the West Brom, West Ham, Southampton bracket of teams in sort of 8th to 12th. We've succeeded in winning Sam's 'table of 7' at the bottom so I guess success has been achieved under him but the season as a whole has been very disappointing and the frailties still exist in the squad once you take out key men.

Underachieved massively considering the points we have dropped this season which was 12 from winning positions that 12 points would of put us 8th but need to be alot more consistent next year I don't want a relegation battle next season or ever with the team we have got one place higher this season but less points than last season so we definitely need to recruit in the summer

That's to say three to five points more than we actually got. On your final point, we do seem to go down the bog pretty fast if Cabaye in particular is missing. We didn't have the chance to see, thank goodness, what happens if there is no Benteke. But then would Swansea have stayed up if something had happened to Gylfi or Llorente? No. Oh, and having a top striker does not in itself guarantee success. Sunderland finished bottom despite having Defoe. And once upon a time we got relegated despite having Johnson. Not great but not good enough for top 10. Good first 11 when fit (including Sakho) s*** squad that's championship standard really. Now we need to release a few and try sell a few and bring in. New number 1

Edited by chateauferret (21 May 2017 7.12pm) My point on Benteke's transfer fee and wages was just to say it's not the kind of money your owners want to spend just to escape relegation on the penultimate weekend. It was meant to signify the club moving forward, without a threat of relegation like West Brom or Southampton and potentially a top 10 finish. We should have kept the core of last seasons team together, we had to lose Bolasie because he wanted out but we should have retained Jedinak and Gayle, before this season we had improved incrementally and was a successful template, we allowed Pardew too much control in gutting the team last summer.
