Mine's always been the Arthur ... and still is. The atmosphere / singers were always in the AW when I started watching Palace in the early 80's. Goading away fans in the corner and up above in the seats and surges (when there weren't even enough fans to do it properly) were a regular feature. Always prefer a side on view of the game too. AW has the best acoustics by a mile too. Had some lively moments in that stand back in the 80's too ... Millwall in there and mayhem ensuing, Charlton's B Mob trying to take liberties etc ... miss that terrace! What's yours & why?

When I was aged 6 onwards it was the Whitehorse end as my uncle could look out of his mothers flat and see how the ground was filling up before deciding when to leave (very useful when it was freezing cold). I would take a wooden stool with screw in legs and stand on it holding onto one of the metal terrace bars. Always dodgy negotiating the muddy banking at the top of the Whitehorse. Nicer at the bottom with the concrete terracing. Then back to his mothers for a hot drink, wait for the traffic to die down and drive home great day out! I returned later and a bit older but to the Holmesdale end. still way before it was a stand!

My dad always used to make me sit in the Arthur as a kid because he said the side of the pitch was the best place to see the game. Then when I was older my Uncle had a season ticket at the top of the Holmesdale and the view was great. So now I favour block L of the Holmesdale. High up, near to the noise. Can't get tickets there as a lowly silver member though (no metallic knob jokes please).

Arthur's the one for me, spend a lot of the time telling opposition fans that at a good time it is actually a better atmosphere than the holmesdale. Been times in recent years that the noise has literally made it feel like the roof is gonna come off.
We're the Arthur over ere! |

As long as I'm watching Palace I'd sit anywhere.

Holmesdale upper (although the family part of the Main Stand is seriously competing). Decent view, although I do like the lower Holmesdale block B for noise.

I've never been in the Whitehorse and only been in the Old Stand once (5-0 v Burnley in 200. I started off on the Holmesdale terrace then graduated to the New Stand terrace and sometimes in to the seats behind if the stewards weren't watching. These were my favourite times as a Palace supporter. I remember singing anti ICF songs only to find a load of them just behind us, I also remember chasing Charlton fans only to find that I was the only Palace who kept chasing them and ended up getting a kicking. Happy days! Back in the Holmesdale now since it reopened. Happy with my seat in block D, although would prefer it if the blokes behind me didn't renew as their negativity is very boring. I don't think I'll change it, although miss not having the away fans next to us.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

The Arthur terrace was the best closely followed by the Whitehorse (before Sainsbury's) and the Old Stand terrace which we had up until 1980. The Holmesdale never really did it for me apart from that night in May 1979. Too many memories of frozen feet there when winters were winters. None of this wimpy mild stuff we have today. Proper ice on the terraces and snow drifts up to yer knees.

As I've been sitting and standing in the Whitehorse since 1989 after they put the seats in the Arthur Enclosure where we used to stand,I'll have to say the Whitehorse!! Have to admit a big part of the entertainment when I was a kid in the 70's was watching the fights in the Whitehorse every week from the safety of the front of the Arthur enclosure. Always used to amaze me how they used to have a small group of away fans in the centre of the Whitehorse surrounded by palace, separated only by a line of police, no wonder there was fights every week, but then it was the 70's and as a kid that end always had a fascination for me even though I hadn't started standing there!!

Stood on a full terrace last night at Exeter and by jove it felt good. The buzz of it and the constant noise, and I have to be honest here, p1sses on all the top clubs including ours. They have about 15 different songs and go for it for the whole 95mins. And because it's a terrace it draws others in to sing too to make some din. Then you have the chatter between big groups and the shouting to make yourself heard and aren't restricted to conversing with the two people sat either side of you. Safe standing back. Now. Anyone under 30 just doesn't realise what they are missing. It's bloody fantastic. Edited by Kermit8 (19 May 2017 5.53pm)
