If he's injured past August we won't be able to sign him because he'll fail any medical...we have more than one reason to hope he gets back to fitness soon!

I wouldn't say that we signed chungy when he was injured. Our medical team will have the details on m.sakho. Also dr zaaf was working for lfc when they originally signed Sakho.

Could be a blessing as no one else will be able to sign him and then we could potentially get him on loan again!

And thus spend the dosh elsewhere..

The medical is just a piece of advice procured in the course of due diligence, like a survey on a house. The client can take that advice and make his own decision. If the medical suggests that a player will be available in x weeks, a club can take a view on the risk and sign the player.

On the contrary, if clubs think of him as damaged goods it might be the only chance we have of signing him.

How does it affect the insurance if we sign a player despite a failed medical?

If a player fails a medical and a club signs him regardless then he isn't insured so the club would receive nothing back if he was to get injured again. The insurance usually pays for the players wages if they're injured long term.

Liverpool want £30m for him:

Parish:

“You can’t con anyone that he didn’t make a massive difference,” Parish said, talking to the Holmesdale Radio podcast after the victory against Hull. “We won some massive games with him. He’s a really nice person, a big character, he’s got the respect of all the players, and it’s one we’d like to do. But, of course, we have a lot of things we need to do in the summer, and the money needs to work for us and for Liverpool.

“I’m sure there’ll be a negotiation on that. If we can make it work, of course we’d like to, I’m not going to try and be coy or clever on that. He’s a very good player and I think he likes being with us. We like him. Let’s hope we can do it.”

£30m is clearly an opening stance. We would probably value at £20m.
Nobody abroad will pay more than £20m so not worried about being outbid there.
Nobody in the top 6 need him so who are going to be bidding against us?
Spam and Pulis wouldn't be a surprise, and beatable in a bidding war. Saints or Toffees would beat us of course but are they willing to spend big on him, I doubt it.
I think we can get him for £25m which is a lot of dosh for a CB. Are we better off with Kone and Jenkinson for possibly the same money, I wonder.
