There are always going to be people falling through the cracks, but to call people 'poor' & I mean destitute like some on the sub continent or South/Central America or parts of Africa is delusional.

Facts: there will always be "poor people" when you measure poverty in relative terms, redefining it to allow a constant beating of the drum to the tune of "nasty party" and "thatcher, thatcher milk snatcher" is utterly disingenuous.

I have worked case studies in remote Asian communities where there really, really is poverty. I've lived in countries where the Gini coefficient is possibly the widest it can be, with no social security net to fall back on. No one is even close to that level of poverty in this country, unless they've willfully or (through terrible local administration) fallen through the social security net. There are indeed isolated cases, but they are not endemic. We cannot define poverty based on how often you can buy the latest iPhone, or the size of your flatscreen TV. I have lived in UK areas at the lowest end of the socio-economic scale. I've talked to people in these areas, and lived amongst them. These people are not "poor" in the way you desperately want them to be.

There are foodbanks in Switzerland. There are foodbanks in Germany. The percentage of UK families that rely on them is much lower than the EU average, and is lower than Germany. Income inequality is the lowest it has been for 30 years.

By all means pontificate from your white, affluent monocultural enclave down in Devon (when was the last time you donated to a homeless shelter?). But do not assume my "ivory tower" is even remotely as white as your "Hevon".

Now, back to those slappers with legs akimbo...
