Have you seen the Pepsi advert that has been deemed to be offensive? It is literally insane that they have had to withdraw it.

Is it the one with Frankie Boyle dressed up like Jeffrey Dahmer using a vat of Pepsi to dissolve the body of a young rent boy?

It's a w4nky advert and a w4nky reaction. However, in the mid 80's with Orgreave and the Poll Tax riots among others, the Devil's Advocate in me wonders how a similar advert would have gone down with the unwashed masses in England?

I have prepared one of my own time capsules. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. |

No one forced them to withdraw it, they chose to after the negative attention. It was a poorly conceived campaign, easily parodied, and any proper review of it should have had someone thinking twice. Apparently it was all done by the internal team rather than by any external agency. Maybe Pepsi will learn from it. Do I think the outcry is a (massive) over-reaction? Probably. But the point of advertising isn't to alienate a huge potential consumer group and anyone should have been able to see that there was potential for this advert to cause that.
