Moyes tells reporter she will "get a slap"

Right I don't really get the big deal about this? I haven't seen the incident but the BBC article says that they were laughing together while saying it which implies it was a joke and taken as such. She didn't make a complaint. Why should it be the biggest sports story of the day? Quote
However, shadow sports minister Dr Rosena Allin-Khan called on the Football Association to get involved. "This is disgraceful. David Moyes cannot get away with these sexist threats - the FA must take action immediately," she said. How is it a sexist threat? Men say they'll give each other a slap all the time - it's not sexist is it? Quote
Former England striker and BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker also condemned Moyes' behaviour. "Moyes incident highlights a tendency for some managers to treat interviewers with utter disdain. Pressured job. Well rewarded. Inexcusable," he said. Possibly a more understandable comment, but seems to ignore the fact it appears to have been a joke?

Speaking from a woman's perspective he may have just forgot himself for a moment. Hes used to working in a heavily dominated male environment with the comments and humour which goes with it. Come to football any Saturday and stand in the company of a group of males and they will speak to you generally as though you were another man I tend to find

In truth, unless Defoe is delivering the slap, on his behalf, I don't think she's in much danger.

I know a lot of women that take a wee slap as a motivational gesture and speed up accordingly.

I think its generally considered sexist to 'slap a woman' who 'steps out of line or says the wrong thing'. There's a bit of historical context around 'keeping women in line with violence'. I don't think he seriously meant it, and it does seem like they were joking about it, and neither him or the reporter took it in any way other than it was meant. But its also important to remember that there are people out there who are genuine victims of male on women violence who might well be angered (before we jump on the whole lefty liberal thought police conspiracy bandwagon). Similarly, when I think Pardew used the term rape to refer to being beaten in a game of football, its important to remember that there are plenty of people out there who aren't happy with trivialising their harrowing experience with sex crimes.

It seems to have been seen as a threat.
