Recent events seem to have rendered these boards full of more than the usual casual racism and bigotry than usual. Indeed some of it is now overt and (to me,) has crossed the line. You can dress it up a freedom of speech, banter or debate but that doesn't make it any less offensive. I am proud that my club has always been a diverse multi cultural one reflecting the area around it and the one I grew up in. But maybe its just me. (Tin hat at the ready...)

Well said, been a hard week and I will appreciate that some need to vent anger but those who use the atrocities to push their own intolerance are wrong.
One supporter of hacking argued that without it "you will do away with the courage and pluck of the game, and I will be bound to bring over a lot of Frenchmen who would beat you with a week's practice -Blackheath secretary at first meeting of the F.A |

I too have read these boards but haven't found anything offensive, merely differing opinions shared.

I'm positively bristling with intolerance of pretty much everyone and everything. But maybe it's just me.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

I support free speech, I just think offending people outside of banter is unnecessary and hurtful. Hurtful? So what?! Well actually that's quite important. People shouldn't be goaded to the point where they don't feel secure and generalised statements about races, religions can form part of this. Personally, my least favourite 'genre' of post on these boards is about women. I'm a bloke, but I just yawn at all the 'wouldn't say no' etc. You'll never get the chance to say yes. RANT OVER.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

The liberal left are very intolerant of any views they do not agree with.
