We seem a much better side without James Mcarthur in the team, and I really rate him as one of our best players. I suppose it goes to show the best individual players don't always make the best team. Thoughts?

Yeah a bit of a balance issue but when we're playing 3 in the middle who need to be more defensive than Puncheon then he'll be invaluable. We'll also need fresh legs and cover for any with injuries and suspensions. Plus they have to earn to keep their place or win it back. Very healthy situation rather than before, knackering the same players out, and it's possible Jimmy has been overused and rushed back too soon last season.

Yeah really rate him also but Cabaye was very good on Saturday p and great to bring McCarthur off the bench for him when he tires. Think having the two of them competing for one position is a very good thing. Fortunately Luka has allowed us to do that.

He has of course not "dropped" McArthur but is playing to his strengths. Him coming off the bench with fresh legs and not getting tired out is a marked imprivement in closing games out compared with Ledley, say, and is possible with Cabaye and Milivojevic available. Compared with the Pardew era of shipping goals after having to take McArthur off.

What is JP giving us at the moment that JM cannot ? JP does pass the ball around better up front, agreed but JM is not far behind in this regard. JM also rarely loses the ball in possession, and this is JP's biggest weakness. So why JP>JM in BS's mind ?

But we've won the last two games and kept clean sheets in both, so I can't complain..

With Luka in the team its perm two from three. As Punch has been made captain its probaly 50/50 very unlucky for either player but healthy for our squad.

I like McArthur he is a 100% player, but does he fit into the team shape now? Wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the summer. It has been proven in the past the best 11 players you have got, don't usually make the best team. 66 world cup is easiest example, Greaves who was the best striker, but was left out as didn't fit team pattern.

Can't see James McArthur going in the summer. He is an integral part of the team/squad. He could be back as a regular starter before the end of the season if for either an injury or loss of form.

Precisely. People forget it's a squad game now and 20-30 league games is possible on stand by. He's already played nearly every game so far anyway.
