If people want to fight each other over football then I don't see why not. As long as they're all willing participants, have insurance and keep it away from football then why not. Give them a legal outlet and then increase the penalty for hooliganism at games.

These 20 a side fights seem pretty routine in Russia anyway so I suspect he thinks 'we'll do alright at this if we make it legit'. Expect an application to the Olympic committee next.

"Following clashes between his country's fans and England supporters at Euro 2016, Lebedev said he "did not see anything terrible about fans fighting""

He seems to happily ignore the fact that on most of the reported occasions, the Russian fans simply piled into groups of other (mainly English) fans and family groups who were quietly enjoying a meal or a drink and had no inclination for a fight.

^^ths^^

a basketball court with wire fencing (so participants can't run away). Allow spectators to watch, for a fee.

Maybe FIFA could trial this

I disengage, I turn the page.

Perhaps specific events which culminate in an overall score?

You could have 1 scrap 'tooled up' and one non 'tooled up'. Players who just stay at the back givin it the biggun lose points

Then next event take the other teams pub?

in the event of a tie break, bonus points awarded for best clobber - stone island + burberry score highly

A sort of Krypton Factor for hooligans ?

I remember when hooliganism was all about who could throw a plastic chair the highest, most accurate lobbing bottles and running towards the rival then promptly running away again.

Sky's ruined hooliganism.

Exactly... and also with knuckle dusters and other weapons. For him to say he didn't see anything terrible, is simply outrageous

And the fact that most of the English thugs who would have a go.....are on banning orders.

Late to the party springs to mind.
