Seriously considering going, flights and hotels will be dirt cheap, get a nice hotel, spend the time there rather than drinking in the bars & only venture out for the games.

The Police should round up all those with those masks, put them in an uncomfortable van and detain them or act even more firmly with these louts.After all, they are NOT wearing these masks because of the cold ! These hoodlums are advertising the fact that their sole intention is wanton violence so they should be prevented from doing so before they indulge on their rampages.

This is a link to the BBC2 documentary about the Hooligans. They were bang out of order IMO.... fair enough fighting like minded individuals, but they set upon everyone in an England shirt - whether or not they could defend themselves, or were looking for trouble. I would not go to Russia in 2018 if you paid me. People are going to get killed.

I think you'd be fine if you swerved the English (and possibly American) fans. Spent a couple of weeks travelling around France for the Euros and our fans were a complete disgrace. Doesn't justify any of the Russian hooligan violence but undoubtedly plays a part in making us a target. The stuff I saw was embarrassing.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |
