For discussion.

Most managers lose their initial impact after a while. It's not often they stay in a job, maybe 3-4 years. Ferguson and Wenger being the exceptions at the highest level.

So does this also apply to Chairmen ?

It's a tough job. And I think the quick success that 2010 have enjoyed actually made it tougher as it was reasonably unexpected.

SP has admitted he is as much responsible as anyone else for where we find ourselves at the moment.

Has he peaked as a Chairman ?

I think he just cut Pardew too much slack and waited too long before firing him.

I don't think in such a recent small timeframe you could say SP has peaked as a chairman. You could say some decisions were wrong, but you cannot say he has peaked. An athlete has obviously peaked, an owner using strategy or decisions to varying factors you cannot say.

Some owners go from bad decision to more to more. Or worse to worse to worse. SP usually corrects things so this questioning is premature and not helping in the slightest. This is one of our most important transfer windows.

Pardew was given too much time and Allardyce should've come in immediately after Swansea. The 'extra defensive training' in the week before Swansea was the clue, with Pardew claiming he didn't know why it didn't work. Hey? Then on the Friday before Southampton at home the players demand more defensive training because the Thursday training was inadequate as it was before Swansea.

This is the Premier League. Extensive preparation and respect for points and the opposition must be at the forefront of the manager's mind, not the slack or arrogant approach he had.

How many times do you see teams lauded on MOTD for doing this and doing that and their organisation? Never for us. It usually happens when a team turns over a new leaf. Let's hope it happens after Sammy lee does his work on the training ground. It'll be his hard work and SA's instruction.

Up until last season we had finished higher in every season, this was a lot to do with the managers he brought in. Allardyce seemed to be the safest option in the position we found ourselves but I wonder if it was too much of a back step that the creativity and positivity in an attacking sense has been blunted by him trying to train a harder to beat style, so far that hasn't worked at all. At Sunderland I think he took a bit of time to get them going, it's taking us a long time now too.

I think Parish gave Pardew too much control over transfers this summer, Pardew again went after stars, sacrificing the squad in turn and disposing of a well-loved captain. How we ended up with only 1 left back is beyond me.

Maybe. He certainly deserves a fair share of the blame for our current situation in keeping P45dew for so long and I can see Sam falling out with him if he doesn't deliver his transfer targets this month.

Hey? wtf? Care to elaborate?

I've highlighted the defence training issues at very specific times intertwined with the fact Pardew was given too much time. And you think I'm a sycophant. SP has made errors here and there. That's for sure.

Having one 1 left footed player who can really play left back is as risky as high speed driving. Right back is a little easier to fill. Pardew and Parish in agreement got caught out. They shouldn't be too close or too far apart. A manager has to challenge owner for transfer funds. Acquiescing each other is slack, just like our training ground approach.

I was counting him as the sole left back seeing as neither Pardew nor Allardyce seemed willing to use Fryers, lets face it, he's not up to it.

Yeah most managers risk one left back. Happens in all squads in all divisions.

Not a dig at you btw.

Yes if you think about it; McArthur, Zaha, Flamini could probably fill in at right-back if the squad was ever completely decimated by injury, that's in addition to the normal options of Ward, Kelly and Tomkins there. On the left there was no left footer pre-January that could have done a job there, Ledley at a stretch? At least we have Schlupp now who is supposedly versatile.
