Sense of impending doom at the realisation that this could and probably will be a championship fixture next season ,also the way it's looking I can see us going out to these lot or barely scraping a draw and bringing back to our place but fingers crossed we can bring the mighty Bolton down

I'm not too bothered about the result, but I do think that SA should take the opportunity to experiment with what he's trying to achieve, team and tactics wise rather than putting out a weakened team for the sake of it. I do expect JS to get a start in goal though.

Due to the reported fatigue of the team due to playing too many games and our dire position in the league we should tip the cup this year. Give they players a week off and play the reserves ,development team or whatever they call them these days .
Our squad is down to the bare bones ,no Zaha or Sako who are off to Afcon ,Benteke injured and I assume Dann is ill , he seems to be ill a lot .
We just cant risk any further depletion of the squad for the Wetspam match for which we will need to be fit and raring to go .

On the contrary, I think we need to spend big to avoid a crushing defeat to Bolton.

I'm kidding of course, trying to remain jovial.

On a more serious note, a win could be a confidence booster that changes the morale in the camp and it might be worth having a shot at it. A couple of 90 minute football matches per week shouldn't really be exhausting some twenty-something year olds who have no other job than football.

Dann has a hamstring problem.

'Fit' we ain't and I can't see that putting our feet up for a fortnight will address that. The number of injuries is partly a symptom of our lack of fitness. SA needs to work with the squad and get them playing his way and a cup game, the outcome of which is unimportant, is an ideal opportunity to put some of his plans into action.

And a defeat would leave an already deflated team , crushed , knocked and out for the count , goodbye cup ,goodbye premier league .

I think this fitness thing is a bit of a myth . I cant see that pro sportsmen would collectively allow themselves to become unfit to do their job .
I can see your point with using the game as a practice match but would rather remove 'fatigue' as an excuse the next time we get beat .

I agree. So let's do what we need to do to stand us in the best chance of winning. Or worse, going to a replay.

Surely Bolton will be resting a few given their sights are on promotion so may be better to put out best side possible to sort last night's shambles out

with injuries and afcon how many players do we actually have that are available ?

I'm guessing that we are now down to the bare bones so other than playing the youth team there are no other first team squad players available.

I'm guessing big Sam didn't fully realise the sack of s*** he was taking on.

I don’t think SA is bothered about the cup so will rest players and give others a chance. He may even have his fingers crossed for a loss giving the team a week of for the 4th round so the team can go and do some warm weather training.
