The 1st half was the worst I've seen for many years - way before Holloway. Even the display against Fulham when he resigned was way better than that half last night.
Big Sam admitted that his team selection was wrong but he's only been in the job for a few days so I'll forgive him that. The only thing I don't understand is that he was moaning about the short recovery period before the Arsenal game so why didn't he rest key players for that game and save them for last night? Hopefully he has learnt a lot from the last 3 games and can now go about his job which includes buying the right sorts in the window. Hopefully Steve Parish has also learnt that splashing big money out does not guarantee success - Benteke and Townsend were probably the 2 worst players last night . I read that a Chinese club want to buy Benteke for £40 mill - if true I'd bite their hand off and give Sam the money to spend right away.

if you listen to the interview big sam gave he was bemused why we kept lumping balls at bentekes head, doesnt appear to have been the plan, when he won a header there was no one near him

The mess we are in is down to Pardew and Parish. Sam will take time to stamp his mark on things and we all need to be patient. New players need bringing in and the current team need a good kick up the backside.

Only one box-to-box midfielder (McArthur); Cabaye and Ledley are too slow and unfit to do McArthur's job, Puncheon is not physically strong enough to do that job properly.

2 Wingers that want to play on the right, no one that wants to play on the left.

Few options up front; Wickham and Benteke can never compliment one another in a 4-4-2, Remy has had injury problems throughout his career, Campbell is not really PL quality.

The first team is decent (that would include a fit Souare), with the exception of the LM position which is a problem. But there is a serious lack of flexibility in the squad, no fall back tactically, no one to bring off the bench that would scare the oppo and no one to bring in when injuries and fitness have been as bad as they have.

We haven't got time to be patient really. Our run in plus the fact there are only 18 games left means good results are a matter of urgency. unfortunately, we just look nowhere near good enough to achieve that.

Be a miracle if we stay up.
