Despite personally criticising our signing of him, I thought he was exactly what we've been missing for the half he was on against Man Utd. He was leading the team, communicating, keeping everyone motivated and most importantly switched on. Maybe it was just a first chance where he was eager to impress but you'd hope he's like that every game. I for one hope he starts against Chelsea. Ledley looked ok but he is still capable of a mistake and is not really a defensive midfielder regardless.

Agree, thought he was excellent yesterday - shame it looks as though he may now be injured (I've seen on other threads). Story of the season!

Yes, I agree. That looked a good combination. If he is injured, let's hope it's nothing serious.

Flamini, for a player who's had maybe ten minutes of professional football, in a year, looked very good in that DM role. Composed and confident, and it freed up Cabaye somewhat to play a less tackle heavy role.

Begs the question why he hasn't been brought on in one of the many games where we've needed to grind out a point/hold onto a lead with 20 mins to go.

Maybe because he doesn't fit AP's new style - even though he bought him!
He was good last night and should play as much as possible!

That's why he was bought - unfortunately we've not been in that position very often.

The answer is simple.
Pardew is not a man who learns from his mistakes,as others do!!

Hope we keep him in the starting 11 and set up the way we did against United.

Not sure about the whole set up but I would be very happy to see more of Flamini. He looked confident, a touch of class and experience, just what we've been missing of late

wouldn't go exactly the same but similar:

Hennessey
Kelly-Dann-Delaney-Ward
Zaha-Cabaye-Flamini-Puncheon
McArthur
Benteke

Flamini looked yesterday to be that player that enables McArthur to play that more offensive role without sacrificing solidity at the back.
