Just realised what his switch to Ivory Coast means... we will lose our best player for January. He will of course make their squad surely?

Good luck to him - will cause us a problem of course, but astonished Townsend was called up ahead of Wilf. England's loss.

Yep true as of yesterday ....more bad news for us then .... Soka25east Ivory Coast federation have have said Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who played two friendlies for England, has decided to switch international football allegiance to the west African nation. The announcement comes ahead of the African Cup of Nations, which is being played in the middle of the Premier League season in January and Zaha would be used to fill the void left by Gervinho who has been ruled out of Afcon due to injury. The 24-year-old Zaha played for England in 2012 and 2013 but because neither match was a competitive fixture, the Abidjan-born player can turn out for Ivory Coast. Zaha moved to London at the age of four with his family. Ivory Coast’s football federation said on its website that Zaha signed the forms on Sunday to change his sporting nationality and they’re being sent to FIFA. Zaha was pictured with Ivory Coast coach Michel Dussuyer and federation president Sidy Diallo.

They are the holders and will want him from Jan 5th so he misses FA Cup match, West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth and most likely Sunderland as they are the favourites and will get to semi's at least imo.

Sorry, but I feel he's let us down by doing this. We're going to need our best players to get out of this mess and I feel there's a case of both 'throwing toys out of his pram' and 'rats leaving the sinking ship' going on.

Nonsense, he is hardly a kid anymore. If England were interested in getting him involved then he would not be making this move. Most players would like to compete at international level as well as club. It is not like he is going away on holiday for a month.

I really don't get why they host this in January. There was a world cup in South Africa during the summer so it can't be a weather issue ? Should be switched to the off season surely.....
"Brighton are talking about how they're coming for us. And it's like, we've been waiting in the Premier League for you for ages." Wilfried Zaha, 2017. |

Wilf has waited patiently for an England call up. In great form at present. But yet again ignored and others preferred in front of him. Why? He is lucky to have an alternative in the Ivory Coast so good luck to him.

Professional palyers should play in professional tournaments like the PL. Mickey mouse amateur international tournaments, including the world cup, etc., should be reserved for amateur players. How can you run a professional business when priority is given to such stupid tournaments? The clubs should have the right to deny a player's request to go to such tournaments.
