Sako at left back?

Pardew tried him there at the end of the man city game. Maybe because we were chasing the game but we could give him a go. He is certainty built like a defender and gives us the crossing ability lost by souare? I'm not sure on the idea myself cause he isn't the best defensive winger let alone defender but think it is a good question for debate.

Fair point. I'd also like to see Hennessy given a role up front to utilise his height and for us to buy another midfielder to go in goal and for Old Fella and Willo to be the new management team.

Could you clarify what a defender is built like as opposed to what other players are built like, because Sako and Ward are very different.

This is a decent idea. Milner has done very well at left back for Liverpool and Victor Moses is reborn as a wing-back for Chelsea. Must be worth a shot, we need a better left back than we have; and what we have has been abysmal.

I'm surprised Ledley hasn't been played at left back on a temporary basis. He's played there before and he can tackle. Fryers has clearly failed to show enough if he can't get in when there isn't even another left back in the squad. The other option is to play Ward at left back and Tomkins at right back with Dann and Delaney in the middle. The old Pulis style of playing centre backs as full backs. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking we should just try anyone there other than Kelly.

It certainly isn't a stupider idea than taking off a top striker when you're bossing the other lot about but not defending a lead.

It's impossible to have a view from the few minutes he played. No doubt he'd be better going forward than Kelly and offer better distribution. Personally I think Wilf is just a fantastic 1 on 1 defender. He never gets beaten because his turn is so quick and he seems able to guess what wingers will try. Not suggesting he should be used at the back (for many reasons) but it does make me think that a disciplined winger could offer something.
