Strange that we've been so maligned for our defence but at the same time according to the stats our players are the 4th best tacklers in the Premier League !

Perhaps we need to tackle more often

if this doesn't prove the managers the problem I don't know what will. The players clearly want to get stuck in but Pardew's not getting them to do it enough.

I wonder what our blocking stats are, it seems to me that maybe we're trying to tackle too often, sacrificing the team shape and organization.

In the last two games we let in at least 3 goals from set-pieces - we rarely used to concede from set-pieces. We also continuously fail to look dangerous from set-pieces; this is the problem. I and others have highlighted this several times before.
No point in scoring if you are going to concede from a simple corner. We desperately need to work on this. If we fail to do so, then I will start to agree with Pardew out - as this is a basic part of the game.

Making tackles isn't the sign of a good defence. Not making tackles (i.e. winning one on ones in the air, interceptions and closing down play tend to be more important.

Jedi as a defensive midfielder was an immense tackler (one of the best in Europe) but the arrival of Cabaye and our best period, when Cabaye replaced Jedi, the midfield tackles dropped dramatically, but the interceptions rose proportionally.

A good defender only tackles when something has gone wrong or they've been outfoxed.

If it suits your agenda, haven't really a clue what your on about.
Are you saying Pardew is stopping them tackling, but they are defying him by being the 4th best tacklers.

You couldn't make up that stupidity if you tried.

Not sure about less tackles when Cabaye replaced the Jedi, old Kebab is very fond of a tackle.

..means that some of the players are not quite good enough.
