I do hate this description as some get missed and other get saved. Man City didn't miss two penalties on Saturday, they had two saved. We , however, missed one as it wasn't on target.

I can't remember the exact words but wasn't there a rule change a few years ago that the keeper can move sideways. Has this made it more difficult to score a penalty? Also a change this year 'A favourite tactic of modern penalty-takers is to hoodwink goalkeepers with a dummy kick at the end of a run-up. Diving pre-emptively one way, the keeper is humiliated as the ball is lashed into the far corner. No longer: a feint will now earn a yellow card. Lawmakers hope that this will eliminate the early dive off the line, which will also earn a yellow.' Lionel Messi was name-checked by Elleray as one of the most prominent culprits of the newly-forbidden ruse.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

We've 'missed' our last four, if you include Wickham against Valencia. However, I cannot think of the last time an opposition failed to score a penalty against us. Benteke embarrassingly sent McCarthy the wrong way in the Liverpool game last season while Hennessey didn't get especially close to any. And of course Speroni, for all hos sterling work over the years, has always been dire at penalties, normally just falling out of the way. I can only think of two he ever saved in normal play, and one of this was at Derby when the ball hit him on the shoulder and was deflected over the bar.

Amongst current day keepers the one who springs to mind in terms of his ability to save penalties is Artur Boruc. Going back many years, Paul Cooper was a real penalty saving 'King' and I think in a season for Ipswich he saved 8 out of 10 but I cannot remember the exact season.I have had discussions with Ipswich supporters about the exploits of Cooper. In terms of players who were terrific from the spot, of course one thinks of Le Tissier but Shearer was also very good. Edited by Willo (19 Oct 2016 10.36am)
