I'm in two minds. When Rooney made the England team as a younger lad I was very excited. Part of me (and I still can't work out why) would love to see Rooney actually live up to the hype and have a storming tournament to end his International career where perhaps we get to a semi-final, final or even win and he gets a truck load of goals and/or assists.

When he's playing for United I'd happily see him play like a tw*t.

I thought he was, and was going to continue to be, the business when he first came on to the scene.

I didn't even mind him playing when he wasn't that great around 2010 or 2012 etc, and there were few alternatives to go with, but since he got obsessed with chasing the ball all over the park and not staying up top (or even close to it) I can't stand him.

Well, I don't disagree really. He's been disappointing. But despite him being a potato headed United player that I really ought to despise, I'd still really love to see him finish on a high with England. I want this on record, if Rooney has an amazing World Cup and we progress to at least the semis, if I'm singing his praises I'll feel like I am justifiably allowed to do so because I wished him all the best

Just smells like crowd-pleasing from Southgate - Rooney is still better than most of the squad.

I don't reckon he'll be playing for Man U in 2018, let alone England.

He'll be at Palace.

He is not a better midfielder. If he wants to remember how to play up front then he can maybe come back in.

It should've been done against Malta, there was no need for him to play that game. Announcing he would continue to be the captain before a game has been played was daft too.

If he can't play centre forward anymore then he really is of no use.

Personally, I think he could still play centre forward but perhaps not at Man Utd. He needs move away from them, but he seems to have that disease like alot of them, where they show too much loyalty to the club.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Exactly. This isn't Sunday League, so you can't slide backwards through the team as you lose your ability to play up front.
