Following CPS decision not to prefer charges, not just one but two challenges made by accusers for a review of that ruling.

Perfectly acceptable for the accusers to challenge the decision of the CPS. Keeps the CPS honest. Decisions must be appealable in the interests of fair and due process. Most legal decisions can be appealed. The CPS alone cannot have the final say on prosecutions, otherwise it creates a fertile ground for corruption.

I hope they get this thrashed out quickly so I can start singing Mistletoe and Wine at work without feeling like a paedo-sympathiser. For what it's worth, I reckon he's innocent, given that ultimately he'd be bricking it about God smiting him if he was a bit dodgy.

I think he's probably not a nonce in the classic sense, but that in the 70s when the age of consent was 21, he might very well have done some underage trade - which I think should be forgiven given the absurdly homophobic bias in the age of consent.

Is 'the devil possessed my cock' still allowed as legal defence as it was 400 years ago? He'll be fine if it is.

It might be perfectly acceptable to appeal but what if there is no actual evidence? If there was some, they'd have charged him already. And there should be a time limit for all accusations, never mind the appeals on them after.

The once maybe but they can challenge the decision again if they don't like the outcome. Given how long this has taken already, a little unfair on someone who is potentially innocent?

Surely not if there is the evidence or the need to gather some re:interviews, etc? There would be a lot of criminals on the outside rather than inside right now if that time limit were implemented across the board. Yes, even if there is the need to gather evidence you should report that you've been a victim of crime within x number of years. I'm not saying a time limit on being able to prosecute someone if it can be proven later, but the accusation has to be logged.

I mean, how exactly is a twelve or thirteen year old expected to react to being abused/raped? Straight down the police station and if they don't do it withing seven years then they can't do it in twenty?

The longer the victims stay quiet about it, the more victims there are. When people did finally accuse Savile it was too late to prevent any further victims and too late to punish him for it.
