If Tomkins and Benteke go through, I'm pretty sure the club will have spent more money this week than in the rest of its history

The prices seem very steep for players who have struggled to make starting lineups for top teams. Maybe it means we have our business done early both to help bed players in early and set a very high bar for the transfer market

You got it on one! Clearly leaving it late didn't work last transfer window. Taking advantage of some early deals especially whilst the euros is still going can only be a good thing. A striker or should I say proven 'goal scorer' is a must now. We cannot have another season like the last if we are to push our club forward.

Absolutely fantastic if we can also get these two over the line.

So if we cough up £30 m for benteke and £12.5 for Tomkins that's £57 million minus £9 m for gayle so £48m possibly spent plus we need another striker I'd say , do I have to be the asshole who points out the last team that spent over £50 m in last summers transfer window got relegated that being Newcastle Utd

Townsend £13mil
Benteke might be £25mil
Tomkins £12mil

That's £50mil

Minus Gayle £9mil

= £41mil

Dann sold for £16m and Bolasi for £25m and we've broken even.

I definitely see Bolasie going, but not for that much. Hopefully Dann will stay, especially now his chances of making the England squad have improved.

If your manager is the Brolly Wally you get relegated no matter who your players are and even if you replace him with someone decent with a dozen matches left the damage will already have been done.

If Dann goes for £15-16m he'll to be replaced by 2x CBs for around that same fee. may even re-sign Haangeland or Mariappa for cover.

If we get £25m for Bolasie, i'd take it. Still got Zaha, Saka, Kalkai Chungy and now Andros to compete on the wings.

I can see us still to sell:

Hennessy - £4-5m
Jedinak or Ledley - £3-4m
Campbell - £2m

If 'castle had hired a decent manager they would never have gone down. Now you may not think Pards is a good manager - I have my reservations, but it's not us spending £40m+ that'll get us relegated.

The squad was threadbare. We need more quality in almost all areas. Tomkins is a ball-playing defender but tough too - Benteke can score goals at this level. Townsend is a proven quality attacker. And Mandana is not only quality but cheap. I doubt we're done yet.

We can afford it as: the Yanks' investment has freed up monies that would otherwise have been earmarked for ground improvements, Parish wouldn't risk our future, we have not spent a lot, have freed up wages by releasing weaker players.

As a certain PM once said. Rejoice! Rejoice! We are doing our business early for once and I, for one, am happy with that.
