WATFORD REJECT £20M DEENEY BID Watford have rejected a bid in the region of £20m from Leicester City for captain Troy Deeney, Sky sources understand. Deeney, who has been linked with Leicester following Arsenal's interest in Foxes forward Jamie Vardy, scored 13 Premier League goals for the Hornets last season. Deeney joined Watford in 2010 from Walsall. Blimey if he's worth more than that much how much are our top players worth

Gives you an indication of what we need to spend.

Question whether SP is prepared to spend really big in order to move forward.Seems very keen, admirable, to balance the books following previous disasters with the Club's finances, but if there is to be progress next season, does not appear to be any alternative to some big spending, necessary probably, even to stay in the league, given the vast resources all clubs have with the new TV deal.

I'm surprised people are surprised for two reasons. He is worth more to Watford than he is Leicester. His off the field contribution to the club is well documented. The TV deal everyone bangs on about? Yes we will get more choice of players but the price of players will go up significantly

A lot of players are worth more to the club selling than the club buying. I think he is worth every penny of £20m to Watford as an established and settled striker and I can see why they'd price him at £20m+ Doesn't mean anyone ought to pay that much.

I think that Parish has had a fairly steep learning curve but is well aware of how important membership of the exclusive Premiership club is to both Palace and his investment in the club and he is as aware as any other fan of the shortcomings within our squad and will spend whatever is necessary to up the quality level

Unless we are extremely lucky, and unearth another Vardy and Mahrez, that no one else has noticed, we are very unlikely to improve the squad for that sort of money. And if we don't improve the squad considerably, with the sort of money other clubs seem prepared to spend, we'll be looking at the trap door. We have the US money to fund the structural improvements, so upping the spending on players shouldn't be a problem now. Relegation is a greater risk to our financial security than spending to stay in the PL.
Meanwhile, the Premiership has just dumped out two sleeping giants in Villa and Newcastle, and a pesky gnat in Norwich. They're replaced by three smaller clubs more of our ilk than Newcastle's or Villa's. So, we're not automatic to stay up, but we're not automatic to go down either. We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |
