The prison service has for so long been a bitch to public funding cuts, because ultimately people don't generally give two s**ts about people in prison or youth offenders and think they essentially deserve it. The truth is of course that this massively undermines any attempt at rehabilitation, and results in re-offending and can contribute to escalation of offending as well.

But its generally accepted by the public to cut spending on the prison service above anything else.

I wouldn't particularly blame G4S per se, its indicative of a industry that's laid off or alienated most of its professional trained staff and replaced them with often poorly trained, cheap and often unqualified staff. They just exist to cop the flack that otherwise the government would have to do something about.

An effective criminal justice system requires funding for prisons, rehabilitation, policing and probation services, rather than essentially outsourcing them and using 'statistical manipulations' to deliver 'success rates'.

I'm a firm believer that certain functions of state belong entirely in the auspices and funding of the state.

Something like the Olympics had ridiculous security contracts that simply overloaded the security systems (like vetting) by making absurd requirements on staff by government, which it just happens to charge for.

In reality, the expectations placed on G4S for the Olympics were unachievable by anyone, but it allows the government a paid scapegoat that isn't a minister, and G4S is quite happy with this arrangement. In return they profit very nicely from an arrangement that essentially absolves the state of blame.

Just wait until they more or less take over the Police!! Believe me it's what that thing who is the Home Secretary wants.

Lots of rumours that Mrs Mays husband Phillip is a shareholder in G4S... Neither confirmed or denied by her or him... If true surely a conflict of interest?!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Blair favoured Capita and I guess Cameron likes G4S.

Problem of the Olympics was that even the people working in the hotdog stalls needed to be security cleared... The system of clearance just isn't capable of coping with that level of pressure. It takes several weeks when there is just a normal level of requests.

But yeah the Olympics employed 'security and stewards' on a scale that would make football look tame. Most whom were just average Joes given a day or twos instruction.
