just had a thought. I just about remember the days everybody went to the pub, all the time. Those were the days of just a few channels on the telly, all your friends in the pub, cheap booze in the bar, and the ability to smoke and dare i say, even to drink drive.

nowadays, its very much the shoe on the other foot. Pubs dying everywhere. People drinking at home with cheap stuff from the supermarket.

from the odd visit to a pub at an airport or train station or visiting the British Legion at Selhurst, maybe grab a bite to eat at wetherspoons on George street....otherwise i now pretty much avoid pubs. too expensive, too noisy, too much hassle getting home while half-cut, no quality control on what nutters will be sitting in your immediate vicinity, etc etc....

so what about you ? is it 7 nights a week, or 2 nights a year ? how has it changed over the years ?

As you say, while in days gone past trips to the pub were a weekly thing it has now become more of a rarity. The main reason has to be the cost, £10 doesn't go very far in the pub but in sainsburys it will get me 20 bottles of Becks.

Since the smoking ban, hardly ever.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

It used to be five times per week, but now apart from a match day I really don't frequent them as much. Happier times ;D

Loved going to pubs two or three times a week 1981-July 2004. Best ones with raw comedy caberet thrown in.

First child arrives Aug 2004. Then another a few years later. No more pubs apart from once in a tartan moon. 9

Chatting with your buds in a pub can't be traced. Sitting at home with a case of cheap beer while texting/internet can be.
Or is that edging toward 'conspiracy'?
Pubs are good for the community and have been for centuries yet they are now being priced out of the market.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.............?

Time to move forward together.
