Is it worth upgrading from Windows 8 ?

The new and 'final' version of Windows is being released today. It has been in beta testing for quite a while so hopefully most of the bugs are out.

Like many I have a free upgrade as I bought my laptop this year. I intend to wait a couple of months and then try but I have poor broadband and am wary of an upgrade failing midstream.

Any suggestions/comments ?

On that note has anyone installed Windows 95 yet? Thinking of upgrading from 3.11 but heard some bad things.

I'd definitely recommend 95. The installation CD features the music video for Weezer - Buddy Holly and there's an incredible 3D game called Hover which graphically is as close to reality as any game I've seen. What a time to be alive.

Do I have to wait for the pop up? Got a new laptop about 4 weeks ago and it said I would get the free windows 10 today.

I don't like the 2 screen thing so I'll download it. Hope its better. Don't see the point of having apps on a laptop tho? That's what phones and tablets are for!

Thanks buddy. I am quite a keen gamer as it goes and pretty nifty. Do you know if this will run Minesweeper?

If it's games you're after mate, you're in for an absolute bloody treat. I can confirm that Minesweeper is indeed present should you wish to channel your inner Lady Di. If humanitarian efforts aren't your thing though you can save a mouse from a pack of vicious moggies in Rodent's Revenge or even de-stress with the wind in your face on a stunning mountainscape in Ski Free. I tell you, 95 has got it all.

Well worth it, I've been using the preview for months now and it's as smooth as butter. It's a well needed update, Windows 7 was starting to look a little outdated to me.

My advice would be that if you need to ask the question, then wait a few weeks until any potential bugs have been ironed out and you've had a good look at its features etc.

I know it's been in testing for yonks and I've had it on my laptop since the first public preview, but this is the consumer release and will have its own share of issues.

I'm upgrading as soon as my PC says I can. Have taken a system image just in case though...!

Wow. Maybe I'm not such a gaming expert as I thought. Things have perhaps moved along a bit without me realising. I feel like Michael J Fox stumbling around in 2015.

I have major concerns with Windows 10.

Firstly, its updates. Some updates are mandatory, including device drivers. In the pre live version, there was a way to turn this option off for at least some things, its being reported that the live version does not have this ability. So your drivers will auto update based on what MS think they should be!

Some security patches are also mandatory, like the "security patch" for windows 7 that included a little feature constantly telling you to upgrade to Windows10.

Privacy. Try reading the MS terms of agreement, they are 45 A4 pages long if you print them out.
Included in here is basically the right to gather pretty much any and all data from your computer, and send it to them, including passwords and encryption keys.

FREE? Forbes magazine reports that Windows 10 will be the last "version" of windows. After this, it will becomes just "Windows" and will turn to a subscription based operating system by 2017. You wont be paying for patches and fixes to existing features and functions, but if you want the new stuff they will be rolling out, then you have to start paying annual fees, and you can bet that some of that new stuff will be mandatory for certain other popular applications and games.

NOTE: Windows 7 support continues until 2020.

I will be sticking with Windows 7 for at least another 364 days.
