There is a certain irony in any member of the Crystal Palace Community Association demanding 'action' when they spend all of their time enforcing the inaction that ensures Crystal Palace Park decays away:

Its a disgrace how that place has been left to fester.

I used to play football in the stadium and it was like a third world country in the changing rooms and infested with vermin.

Bromley really should be ashamed of themselves.

I notice that the sign for Selhurst Park at the top of CP actually points the wrong way back down the hill to Penge. Presumably not wishing vistitors to cross the border in to a borough with actual sporting facilities.

As Portillo implied last night, it's time to tell the nimbys where to go, because they are holding back progress in this country.

I guess though that's wholly dependant on what's proposed to be going on in 'your back yard'....

No one wants anything built near their house. I don't you don't and that is normal but if the infastructure of the country is falling behind and disintergrating then something has to give. It is the price you pay for living in a modern progressive country. If you prefer stagnation then move to somewhere like Greece or Russia where they still live in the 1950's.

There you go...there is 'progress' and there is fracking the arse out of your back garden and poisoning the water table for a radius of 200 miles or running a train line through your ex-living room because it shaves 3 minutes of travel time for the one man and his dog who travels between Luton and Wolverhampton to sell paper clips once a year.

Nicely put, but I wouldn't presume to compare the restoration of CPP with HS2 or fracking if I was being completely honest.

More to the point, if CPP is your actual back yard, then you likely live at the Penge end, which is a significant distance from any areas of prospective development in the park.

I would not describe fracking as progress.

He isn't, he's quite clearly stating the opposite.
