Awkward situation- HR advice needed!

Hi all, A story I think you'll find amusing but some advice is welcomed. I have been in a new job for 2 months and made friends with a lad there. Today him and his new boss came down to see my boss and I later sent him a text on our personal phones saying "i'd smash your boss!". Unfortunately she was sitting at the desk within him at the time and saw it flash up on screen. She gave him a funny look but said no more. Later on she questioned him as to who I was (saying that she hadn't seen me before and that I must be new- he informed her who I was etc so assume she was digging to find out my name to match it to the text). This happened after five so am a bit concerned as to what will happen next week. What do you think most likely situation is and what steps would you take next? Would you talk to your boss in advance just to 'fess up and warn him etc? Or would you just leave it and pray nothing happens? Thoughts welcome? Edited by cardiff eagle (22 May 2015 10.21pm)

I should think you will be prosecuted for sexual harassment. Is she from an ethnic minority by any chance, if so it will be racially aggravated. If she is gay it will be some sort of gayphobic charge. Failing that, they will have you for stalking or some sort of threatening behaviour. Best if you offer a grovelling apology and ask for some sort of rehabilitation course. You could plead distress at the Tories winning the General Election.

3. Advertise your mate's number on here so we can all text it (The 'I am Spartacus' tactic). Then blame it as a network fault. Get your mate to write a strongly-worded letter of complaint to the network operator to express his dismay.

Just let it go. You shouldn't have used the system to say something like that and there is probably a policy. But it's arguable she shouldn't have been looking at the screen of your mate. In all probability it will just get ignored by all. What's she going to do? You didn't harass her, it wasn't sent to her. You made an inappropriate comment, worst case that could be raised but you won't get the sack. They probably put in effort to hire you, this isn't worth getting too uptight about. Worst case and it does get raised, tell her 'smash your boss' means really enjoy working for her in Sarf Lunnun. We will all back you up.

Or, perhaps it says, 'she's a smashing boss', which really, is nothing more than an enthusiastic compliment The extended weekend may help. Lots will be forgotten. But a lesson learned nonetheless

I would doubt there is anything to worry about..... 2. You make no direct approach to her, nor intended for her to see it, so it cannot be sexual harassment, 3. If you had put it on your facebook page, you would have been in trouble, but it is not, and was never intended to be in the public domain. Worst case scenario would be a rap on the knuckles for wasting your employers' time I would have thought. (By the way I am no HR expert, and common sense doesn't seem to count for too much in these days of 'isms' for everything)
