100 years ago today. Didn't know much about it until reading a few articles recently. Inspiration for Hitler apparently as he thought his crimes would be ignored by the rest of the world in much the same they did with the Ottomans and the awful fate of those one million plus they exterminated. Not quite sure why the Turkish today won't own up to it and move on.

Why has everyone got to be seen to apologise for historical s*** that is nothing to do with now.

Recognition of a major crime committed rather than constant denial and, thus, having some kind of belated minor justice is very important to millions of Armenians. And for a significant number it was their grandparents that were murdered by the grandparents of some Turks alive today. Not the latter's fault but at the same time hardly ancient history.

Here is a video of System of A Down playing their first ever show in Armenia. There are 3 short comic-book style videos that are commentated by Tom Morello throughout the gig. May be of interest to some. Its terrible that our country hasn't accepted it as a genocide, yet Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have.

Turkey as a country is representative of its history as well as its people - There is a difference between a state apology and blaming the current generation. National pride should include accepting responsibility for the good and the bad of your nation, not just self empowerment.

No one involved in this, on either side, is alive and they have differing views of what happened. The Armenians don't have any right to force Turkey to make statements they don't want to or agree with.

True, although that doesn't really mean we cannot comment on a genocide. Politicians have generally been quite keen on judgements against other countries and their actions. Then again where does Armenia stand on the Blair / Iraq situation.
