RIP. Indeed Richie was one of the true greats ...although not heard much from him in years as I don't subscribe to the cricket on SKY. Always used to look forward to him picking up the commentary when he worked for the Beeb! Edited by Percy of Peckham (10 Apr 2015 5.35am)

This is a sad day. Truly the best commentator. I never saw him play cricket but he was pretty good at it, too, so they say. RIP fella.

A true great. I was lucky enough to see him play and later enjoy his authorative and knowlegible commentaries. Compared to today's bickering commentators he was a giant. Will be sorely missed by all nationalities. RIP Richie.
Invited to SP after Xmas 1969 by new stepfather and his best mate. Freezing cold and lost 5-1. Been a fan ever since!!!! |

Gutted about this. And I feel responsible too. By a weird coincidence I googled him only three days ago to see what he was up to and thought 'Christ, that man will never stop'. s***.

Very sad news. Richie was part of the WSC which changed cricket for the better in the late 70s. Without him, cricket would probably still be stuck in the dark ages.
