Anyone got anything crapper happening in their area of domicile?

I've never been able to get my head around Literature Festivals! Art Festivals, Music Festivals, Flower Festivals, yes. But Literature Festivals?

What's that all about?

Which reminds me...

We arrived at San Giovanni d'asso in Tuscany, after a 900 mile drive. The next night we went into the village to savour the atmosphere.

Just in time to participate in 'The Festival of The Frog'. There were bands, entertainers, impressionists - and frogs, thousands of them - in three enormous pots at various stages of cooking.

I went for the Frog Risotto followed by Frog Casserole, all washed down with lots of red wine.

Not a crap event, but an unusual one nonetheless.

I would have gone for the toad-in-the-hole.

We had a black history month photography exhibition that actually looked quite good but was in the shopping centre.

Then there's the crematorium open day, which I'd also possibly go to.

Those are the local authority type events. Gone are the days when we actually had a venue to host large events good or bad.

I keep seeing adverts for a Vegan Beer Festival at the local Socialist club. Without going I can be reasonably sure I'd want to choke them all on the bones of an endangered species.

This particular "Megastar" seems to have passed me by - famous for sporting a plaster on his face - can't believe I missed that. Only Nelly I can recall was an
elephant ! Think I'll give that event a miss.

Why can't we have a County Show a la Lambeth?

Actually that wasn't even that good. Just had llamas and Maxi Priest, who is from Lewisham anyway.

Never been to People's Day. But guessing they didn't even have a beer tent.

I really love reading and books, so I made the mistake once of going to a literature festival. Never again. Its like going to a music festival, where instead of bands actually playing music, they discussed, in great length, their work, inspiration and interests.

The actual author readings were good, along with someone of the poetry events, but for the most part it was probably only of interest to writers, publishers and accademics. Listening to someone read their essay the role of pagan nature symbolism in Romantic fiction of the 19th century is actually less interesting than it sounds.

And unlike other festivals there was a definite shortage of drugs and alcohol.

I remember him, he was s**t. 'Its getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes' etc. The only reason to go would be to put him out of humanities misery.
