The NEW burial of Richard III

Is it just me, or is this NEW funeral absolutely absurd in its scale and cost? Tens of thousands turning out, people throwing flowers in front of the hearse for FFS...really?! Meanwhile there are real events of consequence happening...just me?

I suppose they have to make a bit of a fuss? ...the old fella is probably going to generate £ millions in tourism and tat. I'd have him in my own backyard for a fiver a view.

History is important to many people and it's an historic occasion. Turning out for such an event and taking part is perfectly fine...Many people know about the history... and to be honest I don't see what you are moaning about. Besides he's being buried in the wrong place. It's slightly annoying that history is being treated as a money grab.

I think its a nonsense. He was king a thousand years ago, he had zero effect on anyone living today, its millions of pounds spent on a pointless show, all IMO of course. I suppose I can understand people being interested in it, but I simply for the life of me cant get over people being so moved they throw flowers in front of the hearse. Its bizarre. What I am 'arguing' for is some perspective, that is rational and relational to his importance today.

People unable to deal with emotions in their own life projecting them onto a national event. Not ideal, but then that's some peoples way.

Just because people 'get into' their history it doesn't mean that they don't have perspective or don't care about modern events......People can do both.

According to Wikipedia he did do a few good things: 'In December 1483, Richard instituted what later became known as the Court of Requests, a court to which poor people who could not afford legal representation could apply for their grievances to be heard. He also improved bail in January 1484, to protect suspected felons from imprisonment before trial and to protect their property from seizure during that time. He founded the College of Arms in 1484, he banned restrictions on the printing and sale of books, and he ordered the translation of the written Laws and Statutes from the traditional French into English. A direct but illegitimate male line still exists today, with the current Duke of Beaufort.' I say celebrate him and support the Duke of Beaufort in a rebellion against the present lot
