Unless you are about to propose, or you are taking a girl there you fancy in a vague attempt to consummate your relationship, I would leave immediately as you will look like a bender if you are there alone.

Walk around for a bit, say 'isn't it breathtaking', take a few pictures and then demand hotel sex for showing your 'sensitive' side.

I am currently on a train from Rome to Venice. Got 2 night's. Has anyone been and can recommend places to go things to do/eat? thanks There are hundred's of things to see and do in Venice, mostly to do with the history of the city. Some are tourist traps, foe example a ride in a gondola costs a minimum of £120! A cup of coffee sitting in one of the cafe's in St Mark's Square can cost £20! Best avoided! There are plenty of museums, galleries and churches worth seeing; it all depends on your interest in such things. Some are free and others at a modest cost. The Doge's Palace is worth a visit but expensive and you'll need to book a time slot, so depends on whether they have availability while you are there. It's worth going to Harry's Bar,just to say you've been. Go early evening before 7 and order a Bellini (a cocktail) and drink it slowly, it won't be cheap. But it's a great place for people watching. The great pleasure of Venice in my view is to wander around and find small bars/restaurants away from the tourist trap areas. Have a great time!

Cheers cb.. Yes im aware of the prices of the gondolas and st marks square. A shame that they are always out to rip you off. Not massively keen on museums, depends really. Ill check out harrys bar though! I like the general non planned wandering round stuff so ill probably spend most time doing this.

Unless things have changed since I went there (and it was a fair while ago), stay away from the eateries and bars on Piazza San Marco, unless you have cash to burn. Have a good time.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

The 2 places recommended to me were Harry's Bar and Florian's. They also turned out to be the most expensive refreshments I've ever purchased at €30 for a couple of drinks, and €12 for a hot chocolate respectively.
