I heard this morning that David Whyte, who played for us in the early '90s, has passed away and there is a thread on the BBS saying the same. So sad for a guy who was only 43. He was a gifted forward and his runs were a joy to see. RIP David.

Blimey, that's sad if it's true. It was only 20 years ago he left us to join Charlton. Here's his career:- Debut 1991 CPFC 39 games, 7 goals (91-4) Retired 1999 aged 28. Decent record at Charlton but faded fast. RIP.

That really is shocking news. I remember watching him tearing Chelsea to shreds at Stamford Bridge, must've been late eighties, looked like he was going to be something very special. RIP David.

This is from 2010 and info about the lad from Charlton fans. They seemed to respect him very much as a footballer. Had his demons it seems.

I remember David Whyte from my early days of supporting Palace when he came into the side after Ian Wright left, and will always have fond memories of that era. So sad to hear of his passing at such a young age.

I remember him being with us but can't really revert watching him play sadly. I got to a lot of home games the season Alam Smith took us up bit don't really remember him playing that much. Very sad news. R.I.P David.
