Hi I don't often come on the forum but have been a palace supporter since 1968.

Last time i was serious on here was just before we were threatened by going out of business in 2010 and I set up petition which over 10000 football fans signed in less than 24 hours. I sent this to various ministers and David Cameron and the key BOS directors at the time to try and prevent the bank foreclosing on us.

Anyway we survived that, now Greg Dyke comes up with a crazy plan to allow the top 10 prem teams to enter their b team into the football league in a new Division 3 with promotion allowed to Div 1.
I can only see one outcome here. Over time the money of the top 10 teams in the prem will ensure they end up with all the top positions in div1.

Why should we care - well here's 3 reasons for a start
1. in my view this will further encourage the top 10 clubs in prem to buy all the best young players in the country
2. Top ten prem teams will get even stronger as they can grow all the best skilled youngsters, and the rest of us will struggle to attract them
3. this will make a farce of the football league structure and you could end up with teams in 11th and 12th position getting promoted (current plan states Prem B teams can't get promoted to Championship). Let's not forget that for most of our history we have been an old 3rd division side.

If you agree with me, please sign the petition on the link below. I haven't set this up but agree with it and provide your own reasons here why it's not a good idea.

If you disagree with me, fine I would be interested to know how you think it will work.

God knows how it will work, and that is the problem. The whole scheme seems to me perverse and bonkers. Mixing up second teams of premiership sides with first teams of clubs in lower divisions? Have I misunderstood that? Who decides what a B team is anyway? Chaos.

The reasoning behind this idea is to promote English players up to a level where they may be included in the England squad. Which is a good idea. But your arguments against are well founded. The richer clubs will buy up the best talents, and increase the gap between the top and bottom.

It all depends on the "club v country" feeling really as to who will sign your petition.

As the Accrington Stanley chairman said: they will be able to achieve their life-long ambition - to play Stoke City reserves.

This all stinks and must be killed at conception. I signed this petition yesterday.

Before doing anything, they should address this:

Spain, 27000 fully qualified coaches. Cost of a course: £400.

England, 3000 fully qualified coaches. Cost of a course: £3500.

Agree with what you say about the reasoning but we all know that no-one is considered for England unless they are playing in the Premier League and more often than not, for one of the "big" clubs. There is more to this than meets the eye, cannot possibly be allowed to go ahead.

By way of balance some points should be made here. How many English youth players were debuted by the big five clubs last season? Just one...Wilson for Manure last game. Only 35% of players in prem are English, the lowest in Europe (Spain 55%, Italy 45%). The gap between U21 and first team is too wide and clubs find it cheaper and simpler to buy a foreigner. Look at the situation at Palace with Williams and Ince.
At the moment the top teams are already more attractive to young talent, so nothing will alter there. There is a rule a young player must be able to get to his club within one hour, using public transport, so local clubs get first 'grab'. What those clubs can do with these boys is the real issue. There are not enough coaches and those available are not affordable by smaller clubs or players alike. In a league that is attracting the most money ever, this money is not filtering down to grass roots level.
By creating the chance for young players to face the next level of competition it is hoped they will learn at a higher level. Anyone who enjoys his football and goes to lower league games will know the standard of skill is pretty good and the organisation is usually excellent. A good 'training' ground. It is working very well in those counties where it already is in action. The bottom line is, something must be altered in the way football is organised in England or the future is grim. One thing is for sure, the top clubs have much to answer for. Supporters of those teams should be asking questions. But success is cherished, so the spring board for change must come from elsewhere. Teams like Manure who have a long and admiral history of producing young top players are now failing, despite being among the top earners in the world.
Think carefully before opposing this measure. At least agree something must be done and offer an alternative that is better than that of a group of men steeped in the interest and health and administration of our game.

One of the main problems (as usual) seems to be money. The big Prem clubs will take all the very best of the younger players because they can afford to, and can pay them wages that the lower clubs will never be able to match. Is it any wonder that heads are turned, as with Bostock (and to a lesser extent Wilf).

Yes there is also the prospect of better coaching and more opportunity at the bigger clubs, but as Adrian b says, so often they never get to cross that massive divide between being a top class young player and the first team Prem player. Even being loaned out for a season or two doesn't often solve the problem.

Maybe, the answer lies in their wages - so that no young player (say under 21 as they should have proved themselves by then) can be paid more than a certain wage, UNLESS they have a set number of 1st team appearances for the club to which they are signed.

This would not necessarily stop the big clubs snapping up all the talent, but may just stop the best youngsters rushing to join the big clubs on fantastic pay structures just to sit on the bench, when for the same money they could still be playing first team football every week with their present club and learning their trade there.

They have had this on Spain for years, you can see Bar$a b in the 3rd meaning seventh place gets the last playoff berth.

I am wholly against the idea, with the EPP and now this the gap would widen even further. I would like to see a minimum amount of English players having to be on the field at any particular time, say 4-5.

Very good idea Becky, salary caps would help for sure.

Add to that curfews and electronic trackers for your Ravels, Bartons, Bowyers and Rangers (all with bags of potential, just that they sjould all be in bed by 22:00).
