Surely Joel has to be in contension for England call up? Or is he being over looked because he plays for us?

Not a chance in hell of being selected for the 'World Cup.Hodgson will rely on those who have already played for England.

Rather he had close season off to recharge his batteries for next season. Fantastic performances all year from him, such a consistent player.

Your probably right, but he has to be one of the most consistant LB in Premier league this season, and he can play at RB and CB and central midfield. Shame because he doesnt play for one of the 'Big Teams' he will get overlooked.

Sadly this is true. Perhaps its my red and blue tinted specs but I haven't seen a better RB defensively in the prem this year - last night showed for me all the good and bad about Glen Johnson. Great going forward but got way out of position for our second goal - at the end of the day Bolasie beat him by kicking the ball past him and running very quickly to get it.

The primary job of a full back is to DEFEND, anything going forward is a bonus as far as I am concerned. What will be more important against Italy and Uruguay - our full backs being good going forward or being able to defend?

In this modern era, modern full-backs are expected to provide the width by attacking on the flanks and this HAS to be part of their 'Armoury'.As midfields have got 'Narrower' full-backs are expected to provide the 'Width'.

Willo's got it right again. There is no chance, so close to the World cup, that Woy can select Ward. But he was at Selhurst yesterday and must have seen what we saw. What a useful player JW is, and just how useful he would be to an international squad. Last minute job? like the sweets at the check-out? Come on Willo, soften up. It could happen, couldn't it?

Thanks for the compliment but I don't often get it right !
No I cannot see Hodgson selecting Ward.I think it is a bit fanciful to think that someone who has not featured for England would suddenly be selected 'Out of the blue' to travel to the World Cup.

Happened with Theo Walcott, but I cant see Roy taking a gamble like that.

A contact has just provided me with a quote from Roy Hodgson :

"[We need] to come away from that somewhat, in my opinion, frivolous idea that a coach watches matches week after week - works with players over two years and 25 games and then in the last couple of games of the season goes to watch a match and suddenly finds a player that had not played any point."

This very much backs up what I have been saying.

If he was called up, and performed well, how long would we be able to hang on to him for?

To me, Palace players playing for England usually means they will soon go on and play for better clubs.
