Retiring at the end of the season. I think we'll always be grateful to him especially if this all turns out to be the greatest period in the clubs history. Kevin Phillips has revealed in his Sky Sports blog that he is to hang up his boots at the end of the season. He will bring the curtain down on a career as Leicester player, but will be best remembered for goal-laden spells at Watford, Sunderland, Southampton and West Brom. After 20 amazing years as a professional footballer, I've decided to announce my retirement. I will play my final game for Leicester on Saturday, at our home ground, having won the Championship title - and that seems like the perfect way to bow out. He was described as the "Consummate professional" and I think played for 9 clubs in an illustrious career.Whilst playing for Baldock Town he used to stack shelves in the local bakery and he also used to work in a Dixons warehouse. Edited by Willo (28 Apr 2014 3.29pm)

Has any fan of any club he's played for got a bad word to say about him? Provided us with some good memories at Palace and even more for the Sunderland fans. I'd love to see him continue to be involved in football in some way. I think i'd enjoy it if he went into commentary!

I remember watching Ashford play at Baldock Town and Philips was a right back at the time! I think he made the right decision to move up front! I might be wrong but I think that when he was very young he was a striker but was then converted to a right-back before reverting back to being a striker. Managers who have signed him include Peter Reid,Gordon Strachan, David O'Leary, Bryan Robson, Alex McLeish etc

I do hope he can find a place in football because I think he has a lot to offer especially to those youngsters who want to make football a career. All the very best to him for a great professional life.

I heard on the radio he was the last English winner of the golden boot, not a bad accolade to take into your retirement. I wish him all the very best, a consummate professional .
