what follows goal difference?

as a means of determining league position. Sunderland (should) lose by 2 or3 tonight vs liverpool,likewise we will huff and puff (with no shots on goal) our way to a 2-0 defeat by chelsea,meaning that by the time sunderland play wet sham on monday if they win it is possible that they could be level on points AND gd. What happens next? goals scored (in which case we are fvcked,i don't know their goals for but i know it's more than us!) or is it head to head ? I suspect it is goals for but can anyone confirm?

Two simple resolutions to your question: a) We try to get more points than Sunderland by the end of the season b) Both Palace and Sunderland try to get more points than 3 teams out of Cardiff, Fulham, West Brom, Norwich, Swansea. Then it doesn't matter about or goal difference so much.
