Since Nov. 30 we are top 8 in the league. Nope. The gameplan was sound. Soak pressure, organised defence, hit them on the break, with the likelihood of us doing so increasing the longer the game was scoreless, as they would have chased for a winner more. If not for a rash challenge, it may have worked. So, no blame on Pulis, this is how we setup against top sides. Edited by moylerg (23 Feb 2014 8.34am)

Timid? Not quite what I saw. Despite all of the media frenzy Manchester United are reigning Champions, currently sixth in the league and in the last sixteen of the Champions League. They have purchased only two players this season and that cost them seventy million pounds! Rooney and the rest of the side were bouyed by his new contract thus commitment to the club. Added to all this that was the strongest United side, and the most experienced, Moyes has put on the pitch all season. Had we gone all gung-ho they would have put at least five past us. For the entire first half they were limited to a few chances and we actually matched them. We also did not concede in the first ten minutes after the break. We gave it our best shot and we lost - no big shock. There are other far more winnable games left this season and we were NEVER going to win every game betweeen now and the seasons end. Jedinak will be plaing in the World Cup finals. How many of their players will be doing the same - eight, nine, ten perhaps?

Discipline is so important in these types of matches against the top sides. Jedi gave away a free kick just outside the box before the close of the first half. It was Rooney territory and then the Chamack challenge for the pen ruined the game plan. I'm sure Pulis won't be happy about both those instances?

I'm not suggesting gung-ho but I think we could have threatened them more, gave them something to think about. It was a little bit to easy for them, they never really looked in trouble. If you take it we will lose to the top 6 teams then there is a case for being more adventurous? We could really do with the odd point again the top sides. To be honest I was a little disappointed yesterday, I thought we had a chance of getting a point.

The opening ten minutes yesterday was the most aggressive and positive we have been this season.

You make a reasonable point, but, we tried an adventurous approach at Anfield, and were 3 down before our second wind! There is a gulf in class, about 500 squillion pound or so of purchased class, so, we need a solid plan. It will work against most sides in this division.

We definitely employed the best tactics for the game but they just had too much. Their forward line is worth about £100m at todays prices. Our entire squad is about a fifth of that ! We have Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City to come and these are games where again its likely we'll get nothing, however that setup is our best chance. Edited by FinchleyEagle (23 Feb 2014 9.40am)

The game plan was working but it was all ripped to pieces with the penalty. It changed the whole dynamic of the game and I felt that Man Utd would get another. Some would say that Chamakh's foul was a "Forwards tackle" - It appeared he got caught on his heels when Evra ran past him and he tackled with the 'Wrong' leg.Rash challenge indeed.

We were far more attacking than I expected us to be but they were better than us.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

We were far more attacking than I expected us to be but they were better than us. Absolutely true, and we were really good. Normally you'd expect the top teams of the league to walk games like this, but we've made them all work for it. But for the penalty, we might have been able to get a point.
