After ten years at Palace and a slow start, how does Jules compare with previous Palace custodians? After the much loved John 'Stonewall' Jackson, the mighty Burridge, the classy £million Martyn and many other good-uns, I'd rate him third or fourth. The new goalie's looking good and could push him.
When Jules was understudy to the Hungarian bloke I did think he was a bit flash and only insurance. Now I know he was better. But after years of George Wood and Philips, remembering the young Bill Glazier and massive Geoff Hammond and that amazing character Tony Burns, I really find myself wondering if Jules is perhaps the best of the lot. How do others rate the bloke?

Martyn
Vaessan
Clarke
Jackson

that lot purely on class

Then Jules

Perry Suckling gets a bad press still but take away that one game he was a fine goalie for us for three seasons.

Saved a pen on debut I recall.

Jules is 2nd only to Martyn, since I've been going to Selhurst at least.

Optimistic as ever

Going since 1976 and in agreement with this. Only Martyn is better since then

We have always had decent keepers at Selhurst for as long as I can remember. Was not so sure about Kiraly, but I think that was more to do with him looking like a tramp in Trackie bottoms all the time.

My dad told me that Martin was a different class.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.

For me it's

Martyn
Jackson
Glazier
Jules

I also rated Kiraly but that may not be a popular view.

Martyn for me. I did like Budgie too (his warm up routines were classic!). Jules is up there (just not good at saving pens is his weakness).

The first keeper I saw was Tony Burns (who stood in for an injured Paul Hammond) - god knows how many keepers since then but not one has come anywhere near Nigel Martyn

I missed Jacko by a season so never saw him to make a comparison
