Another superb result yesterday, my only slight concern is that (according to BBC sport) we only had 34 percent of the possession against a mediocre side at home. When all is said and done I'll bank a 3-1 with that level of possession all day long, I'm just not sure we'll get away with it against better quality sides?

Those stats are bullsh!t, Ok they had more possession than us, but 45% to 55% is a more realistic percentage.

If I was an American stat fanatic I would try to draw up some figures showing how efficient we are with the ball. Always seem to have far less of the ball but come out of games with all 3 points. Possession football is favoured by the likes of Wenger but if you come up against teams who can defend, press and counter it can count for nothing.

Possession stats are very disingenuous You could have 70%, 80% and spend that passing around your own half...its what you do with the possession yo do have that matters Pulis knows we aren't going to have possession stats better than our opponents as he knows our limitations and the game plan is set up accordingly - and it works

Passing the ball along your back line is not possession. Let them have it and maintain your shape if there doing it.

Statistics are important in sport as it is a starting point to look at a team or individual performance. Taking possession stats. Its why we have fewer possession. If its because we keep giving the ball away so not keeping it or finding it difficult to get the ball back, then that's bad. If its because the opposition are keeping hold of the ball in their half as they are finding it had to progress upfield because our players are marking their players well than that's ok. One of the spin-offs of keeping possession is it can tire out the opposition as they do all the chasing for the ball although with three subs its not as bad as it was when you only had one. Arsenal had 57% yesterday at Anfield and were thrashed 5-1. What was the stats in the first 20 mins when Liverpool took a 4-0 lead. I would hazard a guess that it was in Liverpool's favour and as the game when on, especially the 2nd half Arsenal took over possession as Liverpool became more defensive to keep the lead.
