Our two supposed targets that ended up at Hull, who everyone on here was crying we didn't break the bank for, were on the losing side tonight and didn't frankly look all that amazing against a team who've signed no-one and are now level on points with them. Looks like good business from us I'd say.

Jelavic is trying too hard and his timing is off. Should he recover that soon he may well get six or seven for Hull over the next 15 games. Long is another who has struggled to score but then eight goals a season is about his par at this level. I cannot say I like the man (cheating xxxx that he is) but he causes defenders problems....and referees! I think together they will do enough to keep Hull up but only just.

Thought Long was a threat all night. For a small lad he does win his few in the air and is a tricky little player (even if he dives). Was worried when Paddy came on as I seem to recall Long ripping Paddy to pieces when he was at Reading.

I think theyll score a few between them before the season is out.

I go and watch Rangers a lot north of the border and Jelavic is a good player will score 7 goals between now and the end of the season. I am glad we played them when he is still settling in at Hull

Plus Long is not a prolific scorer 3 from 17 is not even average, he's more a provider, why they need him is beyond me they already have Meyler, Huddlestone, Koren, Brady, Livermore, Boyd, Elmohamady, and Quinn.

Would I swap Chamakh for Jelavic? No. Would I pay £6m to play Long instead of Gayle? No. Would I swap Long for Gayle? Yes. Though Long is obnoxious, he is the finished article and does put a shift in. He is a constant pest and a menace with good movement. I think that he would suit our current set up playing just behind CJ or MC. It is not that I dislike or don't rate Gayle. I think that he is not yet ready to consistently start in a "blood and guts" survival battle. He probably would be starting every game if we were still in the championship.

Long to me looks like a much better version of Cameron Jerome.
