Unfairly took stick earlier in the season on this forum, he has to be in the top 5 of the most consistent keepers so far this season, no big costly mistakes at all. Long may it continue!

not just this season, but he has put in some splendid long spells of consistency in all his years with us. Also, his loyalty to Palace is beyond any doubt. We are lucky to have such a big man in a position that is notoriously difficult to fill in any squad - a longstanding dependable shot stopper. Edited by Palace_denizen (19 Jan 2014 8.50pm)

he is in great form right now, even looks more confident with crosses and corners - only current weak spot is indecision coming out of his area

He didn't have a 'busy day at the office' yesterday. But, having said that, still pulled a first class save out of the hat (the low one, that he scooped out with his right hand). So my Speroni man-crush continues. And, without hijacking the thread too much, his lack of a 'busy day at the office' is a great compliment to the rest of the team.

a keeper is a keeper is a keeper ,at the end of the day his job is to stop the ball crossing the line, although his dominance is suspect in the penalty area his shot stopping is superb, how many keepers out there are the opposite of jules, and how many make mistakes when coming for crosses, at the moment our defence as a whole complement each other, the job is satisfactory at the moment, and as a keeper overall he is more than adequate

Anyone who knocks Speroni, needs to revisit the last 10 years or so. More than any player he's earned the right to be the Palace number 1 in the premiership. There are better keepers in this league, true, but none of them would ever consider playing for us. And besides, we'd be a league 1 or 2 team if it weren't for him. In our very lean years he was worth more than a 20 goals a season striker.

His penalty saving leaves a bit to be desired, but if I was going to pick one attribute my ideal keeper was terrible at, it would be saving penalties.

Edited by Palace_denizen (19 Jan 2014 8.50pm) Speroni has had a few in his time, all of whom have been rated good in their own right, most they've got is one or two games a season, and their teeth smashed out in the reserves.

He has been loyal to us and I don't think Argentina have any keepers so at least should give him a go. In 2013 it is so so rare to see a testimonial and it is normally a player that is local and has come through ranks. He has his faults and I think if it wasn't for those minor faults he wouldn't be playing for us, he would have played for a bigger club long ago

Unfairly took stick earlier in the season on this forum, he has to be in the top 5 of the most consistent keepers so far this season, no big costly mistakes at all. Long may it continue! He did not take stick unfairly. Most of the comments were not insulting and were quite objective. The bottom line is that he is playing in a system which effectively has four centre backs and six defenders most of the time. The way Pulis sets the team up is going to make almost any half competent goalkeeper look good. Furthermore, the one thing Jools has always been good at (the reflex save) is the one area where he can continue to shine and, indeed, he stills pulls off the spectacular save as he always has done. But with four centre backs and six defenders, while his shortcomings as "in the box keeper" remain, they really don't cost us that much because there are plenty of bodies to clear the ball without needing to rely on the keeper. Jools is very lucky. He's playing for a team set up to make him shine though no doubt, recently, shining is what he is doing.
