i was so glade when the subbed there number 24 (Assaidi) i dont think mariappa could handle him he got his cross in every time . i was thinking we need to get ward back in at rb as it was cleare that assaidi was on top everytime,

i think thay subbed him for the man city stiker thay have on loan but from my view he looked a very good player i think he will be back at liverpool whern loan ends

Agreed, mariappa was getting abused today, all traffic was going down his side. Not a knock on him because it's obviously not his natural position. Was really hoping at half time they would sub him put ward back where he belongs and put O'Keefe next to Jedi. I really want Ward back to RB, it's far better for my heart burn!

I thought Mariappa actually had one of the best games I've seen from him. He even won a few headers against Crouch.

Mariappa played well but tired a bit too much in the last 15 minutes.

He's still clearly not 90 minutes match fit, and he's no Ward, but he's vastly improving out of position (as is Ward in DM). Ideally, we'd keep him as a backup CB, but I think it's a better option than starting with SOK, who is great, but a little lightweight at times?

I agree and they actually subbed Assaidi for Arnautovic which had me more scared as Arnautovic is a bigger goal threat but thankfully he was poor today !

I feel Mariappa does a decent job there but I'd rather Ward back at RB soon as he's excellent in that role and has a much better final ball than Mariappa !

As the person who also started the anti-Wilbraham thread (a minute apart), you are such a sad human being.

The team wins, restricts the opposition to two shots on target, and you choose to batter two guys who are working bloody hard to get into the team. Mariappa had to deal with Assaidi (a liverpool player), and then a fresh Arnautovic (ex-Inter) (their two biggest threats) and still Crouch had no aerial service. And he's being played out of position. Wilbraham created chances, held up the ball exceptionally well and worked so hard to try and restrict their time on the ball.

I'm not saying people are ever devoid of criticism, but compare the value of their side to ours. I cannot imagine what you'd be like after a defeat. Sort out your priorities, your pure negativity is horrendous.

Agree with Ambrose7. Assaidi is their best player imo so Mariappa had the hardest job on the pitch. I think Mariappa puts in a great shift but in an ideal world, we'll get a defensive midfielder and Ward can go back to rb. Mariappa is a very good cover for rb and cb. Wilbraham is NOT a goal scorer and for me is defiantely a player to bring in if we are winning with 10-15 mins to go, I thought he was magnificent (I'll pretend I didn't see that shot which dribbled wide). A striker, a cb for cover, and a defensive midfield is what we need. Winger might be nice too but first 3 are more important, especially striker.

Personally didn't think Assaidi did anything until just before half time. Mariappa played well today. He needs to work on his crossing though.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye!

After having to log on again after being a member for god knows how many years !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right having watched the game on my laptop I have to agree with Tony we need players , however Mariappa is playing out of position and had no support from the trickster, I know he tries his best but feck, the result is the import thing god bless Tony!!!!!!

I have to say Mariappa did have a hard job, but the wingers actually weren't able to get quality crosses in...He is also one of the best jumpers I've seen, he gets tremendous height (handy when you a little bit short for a CB) and gets good distance on headers, also very nippy down the wing and gives Puncheon good support, given that he tackles wells and recovers pretty well, if he were able to improve his crossing I would say he was almost the complete package.
